Applications for the Green Start Academy (GSA), a leadership and development program for Assistant Superintendents, open on June 15 and run through Aug. 1. Co-hosted by Bayer, John Deere and Rain Bird, the event takes place Dec. 12-14 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

“The Green Start Academy provides Assistant Superintendents with the ability to build strong foundations for their careers and forge connections and skills that last a lifetime. Rain Bird is proud to continue to grow the industry through this program and partnership with John Deere and Bayer,” Tony Whelan, national sales manager for Rain Bird’s golf division, said.

Topics covered by top leaders in the golf industry include balancing a budget, how to manage diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace, resume building, networking tips and more.

“We’re proud to continue our partnership with John Deere and Rain Bird for another year at Pinehurst through a program whose unique combination of mentorship and development training has left a lasting and positive impact on the industry,” Will MacMurdo, head of the U.S. turf & ornamentals business for Bayer, said.

The event welcomes 50 assistant superintendents from across North America to participate.

“The success that the graduates of Green Start Academy have seen throughout their careers is astounding,” Robert Schmidt, global manager of market development and strategy for John Deere Golf, said. “We are thrilled to continue this storied legacy for the class of 2022 and look to see where the learning and networking opportunities, both with their peers and with industry experts, during the event will take them in their future career aspirations.”
